Tropical Storm Ian expected to head toward Florida

A new tropical storm named as Ian, has formed in the Gulf of Mexico over the central Caribbean north of Venezuela

The tropical storm is  expected to move toward western Cuba on Monday before continuing north over the Florida Keys and the peninsula

Up to 12 inches of rain could fall in some areas, with flash flooding and mudslides possible in Jamaica and Cuba

"This storm has the potential to strengthen into a major hurricane and we encourage all Floridians to make their preparations," DeSantis said in a statement. "
